It all started in 1947 when Diane Hendrick, Major Bill Hendrick’s wife, made handmade dolls for underprivileged kids but had no where to donate them. Bill Hendrick started Toys for Tots that year and gave out 5,000 toys.

Since then the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves has taken over as leaders of the campaigns and spread their efforts throughout the United States. In 2000 the 2000th toy drive started and many more young lives have been positively impacted since then. The hope is to show children they have a role model and someone they can trust to help them through a tough time. Some of the children may not receive a gift this year but with a program such as this, they have cheer and holiday spirit.
